Bunyoro Heritage

About Bunyoro

Bunyoro-Kitara is one of Uganda's great cultural homes, with deep history, strong people, and a heritage that continues to guide the region today.

A proud kingdom

The Kingdom of Bunyoro-Kitara is remembered as part of the wider Kitara story, which once covered a large area of what is now western Uganda and nearby regions. Its history includes leadership, trade, cattle keeping, farming, iron work, and strong cultural systems.

Bunyoro is also remembered for the resistance of Omukama Cwa II Kabalega, who stood against colonial rule. That history is painful, but it also shows courage, dignity, and love for land and people.
